I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Turo (San Francisco, CA) in Mar 2018
Interview
The process was pretty smooth. A friend of mine introduced me to her friend at Turo with whom I shared my resume. I then had an initial phone screen where I was told about the company's objectives, and how the Data Science team helps the company get there. Then I was given a take-home data challenge, after which I had a technical debrief on the phone. Finally, I had an onsite with the hiring manager and the product manager. The entire process took about 6 weeks from initial contact to signing the offer.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Questions in the first phone screen were resume based, digging into your experience and qualifications. Questions in the debrief were technical pertaining to the data challenge where I was asked to explain the choices I had made in more detail and lay out the pros and cons. The on-site had behavioural questions and some product related questions.
The first round of interview was with HM to walk through the resume. Passed it and got a take home assignment. The take home is not difficult. Got the next round which is the take home presentation.

Question 1
Go through a project involving data manipulation and modeling
It was a 45-minute interview, and overall it went very smoothly. Most of the discussion was centered around the project I had worked on before, so I had a good opportunity to explain my role, the technical challenges, and the solutions I implemented. The interviewer mainly focused on the technical aspects of the project, asking in-depth questions about the architecture, design decisions, and the technologies I used.
There were no coding questions during the interview, which made it feel more like a technical discussion rather than a problem-solving round. The conversation was quite interactive and comfortable, and I felt that I was able to explain my experience clearly. Overall, it was a positive experience.
I applied online. I interviewed at Turo in Mar 2026
Interview
The overall experience are positive. I skipped the HR call so the first round is with ds manager to talk about a past project. Then I was given with a case study project and the interviewer will dive deep into your code and presentation during second round interview. The final round was 3*45mins back to back, which will test your coding skills, statistics knowledge and business sense.
