      Frontend Engineer Interview

      2 Dec 2022
      Anonymous employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Turo (San Francisco, CA) in Sept 2022

      Interview

I was referred to Turo via a friend. They helped me navigate Greenhouse for the most relevant position. The first part of the interview was an hour-long technical phone screen. My recruiter Nelson, provided me with my interviewer's name and LinkedIn. I was able to find something he had published on Medium "Tackling major Next.js Upgrades", which helped me feel prepared. The technical portion focused on react fundamentals. It was very relevant to the work: (ex. hooks, passing/manipulating props, and rendering). We covered a lot of buzzwords and high-level explanations. I worked with my recruiter - to push the technical back a few weeks until I felt prepared. When he scheduled the virtual onsite, he provided a list of the relevant people and their assigned topics. Hiring manager Problem Solving Skills Technical Case Study API Design/Data Modeling Follow up with the Rrecuiter 4 hours in total. Each interview was either with a Staff Engineer or an Engineering Manager. Most of the interviews had someone shadowing (another Software Engineer). After the virtual onsite I recieved positive feedback from the panel within a day or so. Before I was given an offer I met with with my new manager and the directory of engineering to make sure everyone was on the same page.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The technical case study involved writing a react program within a specific sass editor. I was given a Figma, and a basic react project. I was told to build the components and make the section responsive. We spent some time, in the end, modifying the CSS and cleaning up the component.
