Applied online, was emailed for an interview. I had worked with some of the folks in this department beforehand and they knew I was applying. I got an offer on the spot, it was a good day.

There was no interview per se. It's best to contact a professor you know about a specific TA position. They can pull your application out of the stack and give you priority consideration for the position.
