      Review board file and wait for board to release results. Updating the board file is very important. Making sure all the information is correct is the most time consuming. It's been made easier by being electronically available.

      Army officers have files sent to a central board who reviews their evaluations and determines if they are ready for promotion to the next rank. Individual assignments are sometimes received through an interview process. The interviews can be very informal (just conversations with hiring authority, or they can be formal interviews ranging from questions about past experiences to fully scenario driven interviews.

      Officers must attend a service academy, complete ROTC, or go through OCS training to be commissioned. There is no single interview process, the selection typically takes place over the course of several years.
