It started with a phone interview with one of the company leaders. It was very casual and a pleasure to geek out with her about SEM. She was, however, on speakerphone, so it was sometimes difficult to hear her. After the phone screening I was invited in to talk to a lower level team member. This interview was okay, though it sounded like the company was in flux and growing fast without a really solid idea of what they were looking for. The final interview was with the company's leader. That was just awkward. I don't think either of us cared for each other. He asked some good, hard questions, but seemed determined to believe that I would be terrible working with clients because I am an introvert. As a result, he was surprised that I was applying for the more senior Account Manager position, even though I have over 8 years of experience, including a management role in which I interacted regularly with clients. Overall, it was an uncomfortable interview and I did not get the job. I didn't feel like I was a good fit for the role because they seemed to be looking for someone with more social experience (facebook specifically). I found it odd that the reason they gave in their rejection email was that they hired someone with more PPC experience. This is an incestuous industry and there aren't many folks in Austin with 5+ years of experience looking for an Account Manager job at an agency, so I think they just didn't like me. Which is totally fair, but I would have rather just heard that I wasn't a good fit than I didn't have the experience necessary. I appreciated that I got to a senior level person very quickly and the process was not drawn out. They seem to have some great culture perks and everyone I talked with was very smart.
