      Internship Interview

      13 Aug 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Baton Rouge, LA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Unity Concepts (Baton Rouge, LA) in May 2015

      Interview

Actually, the interview itself went well. The guy who interviewed me was very courteous and friendly. It has been a while since I've had the interview so I don't remember the details of the interview questions but they were pretty simple. What was wrong was what happened after the interview. I received no reply back from Unity Concepts what-so-ever. The interviewer even TOLD me that they WILL be contacting me for a SECOND interview by the (same day) afternoon, if not the next morning. After not hearing anything from them for a few days, I took initiative and emailed them (through the email that I've originally been contacting them through). I got nothing back from them. I don't mind if I don't get the position based on what I've experienced with Unity Concepts now, but the level of professionalism was deplorable, and I was disappointed with a promise that was never fulfilled. As a company that deals with customers, I wouldn't trust these "fakes" with any of my business. FYI, they asked for "goodies" in their email for the first interview for "points" and based on what I saw on the day of the interview, you have more chance of getting a job offer if you have connections with the employees already there.

I want to thank you for taking the time in leaving us your feedback. I am glad to hear that your interview experience went well. We strive to make our interview process as easy flowing and professional as possible. It is our goal to make each individual applicant feel welcome and appreciated. Our interview process consists of a series of three separate interviews conducted over a span of two different days. After the preliminary interview is complete, one of our managers will contact the applicant that evening solely if the applicant is felt to meet the qualifications and be a good fit for the position. Since our process is very selective, not everyone will receive a call back. I do want to apologize if this was not clearly stated during your interview. We are always trying to better our hiring processes so this is something that we have made sure to take into account. Once again, on behalf of the Unity Concepts management team I want to thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We appreciate your initial interest in our company and wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors.

      Interview

Anyone can get this job/internship. All you need is a car and a mouth. The average Joe Blow could be nothing one minute and then your manager another minute. I really didn't understand what they wanted out of me at first. I thought it was just a marketing firm that did in store marketing and even ads on social media. Um no! They want you to go door to door like some encyclopedia salesman from the 40s begging people to buy the product. I am not in school to be a door to door vacuum salesmen. Not to mention that in my opinion knocking on doors as late as 7 at night being a female and alone is a but dangerous. After I figured out that's what the internship consisted of I purposely told them I didn't have a car so they wouldn't call me back. Not to mention they lied about it being a paid internship(I guess it depends on how you look at it) to get paid you have to go door to door and make about 3 out of 15 sales.... realistically.... You don't get paid unless you work. There isn't a base salary.

Hi there, I'm so sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your interview experience. I certainly understand that our company is not for everyone, but I do wish that I would have made you feel comfortable enough to express these sentiments to me in person, rather than online. It sounds like the work we do (and especially why/how we do it) was not properly conveyed to you. Should you be interested, I would still be happy to speak to you in person or over the phone to discuss these things. I value integrity above all else, and I am sorry to hear that you felt that I demonstrated otherwise. I hope to have the opportunity to speak to you so that I may rectify your view of me. To clarify, the internship is indeed a paid position. Additionally, a vehicle is not a requirement for hire. To address your first point, as the president of this company, I would have to disagree with your suggestion that we hire just anyone. We spend a great deal of time getting to know each candidate to ensure a great fit for each position. We are, in fact, extremely selective during our 3-round interview process. With that being said, the position you interviewed for is an entry level position, which means that a person with little work experience has an opportunity to join our team and work their way up. The management training program to which you applied provides individuals with an opportunity to gain hands-on business experience in so many areas, of which sales is only a small part. The main focus is actually on leadership development. We train our team on so many business essentials including management, human resources, interviewing, recruiting, training methods, finance, and public speaking--just to name a few. These are important skills no matter which direction a person decides to go in--either to advance in our company, or move on elsewhere. At the very least, this is an excellent resume-builder that makes a person a more valuable professional. As a well-educated person myself, I went through the same management training program, NOT because I wanted an entry level position, but because (a) I wanted the real-life business training and (b) because I knew I could advance based on my own hard work and create something much bigger for myself. Our management training program is especially popular with recent college graduates who are looking to gain business experience and/or advance into a management role. But like I said earlier, it's not for everyone. Please do not hesitate for a moment to contact me. Once again, I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you. You can call 225-296-8843 and ask for Joel. Best regards, Joel Price President of Unity Concepts
