      Software Developer Interview

      1 Apr 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Dundee, Scotland
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Unity (Dundee, Scotland) in Jan 2020

      Interview

I was invited for an initial interview (using video chat) with a member of the recruiting team. They asked what I knew about the company and gave a overview of parts of the company that I was not aware of. They explained a bit about the role and confirmed what their and my expectations of the role were and we went over my work experience and CV to ensure I would be suitable. The initial interview was straight forward, it lasted around 30 minutes and overall it a positive experience. I was then invited for a second interview (using video chat) with the position's manager, where they described the team structure and the products they work on. We went over my experience and CV in a bit more detail. The interview went into more technical discussions, but again it was straight forward, it lasted around 30-40 minutes and was positive. I was invited for an on-site interview which I needed to travel to. The Unity recruitment team were excellent and sorted all the travel arrangements and accommodation for the visit. Even when my initial flight was cancelled, they were extremely helpful and I was re-booked on to another flight the next day. The on-site interview was okay. I met the position's manager again and was introduced to a member of the team. I was given a skills test which consisted of tackling a task using a language of my choice with a chromebook and a basic text editor. The set up threw me a little so I felt out of my comfort zone which meant I did not take the time to think through the task as I should have done but the skills test was straight forward. The aim was simply to talk through the task and how you would solve it whilst writing code to demonstrate the solution (the code was thankfully not run). After the skills test was completed, we then went through my work experience and CV again and there was more of an opportunity to ask in more detail about the team dynamics, the type of work that is undertaken, the kind of problems they deal with and what the future of the product development looked like. The interview took around 2 hours and again it was a positive experience. Unfortunately the process stalled a little at this point due to difficulties getting enough references in place so it took a while to get a formal offer but the recruitment team were brilliant and supportive throughout the entire process so even though it took a while, it was no bother.
