Super long day with a 12-15 person interview. Tiring and daunting. Seen as a right of passage by many. You’re expected to give a talk at the end of your day.

I applied online. I interviewed at University of Houston in Oct 2025
Interview
I applied online and then was reached out to by the hiring manager to schedule a virtual interview over Teams. That portion went well but had issues with scheduling the panel which was required to be in person. One of the panelist had a very limited availability so it was difficult to schedule the panel interview, but I was able to find availability. The in person panel interview consisted of the hiring manager that I already spoke to and two other panelists. The two new panelists were incredibly disengaged and all the questions they asked they read off their laptops. I was pretty sure one of them was checking emails/doing work during the interview. I was a bit late to the interview which may have started the interview off a bit on the wrong foot, but it is no excuse for the level of disinterest that I encountered with those two other panelists. I felt like I wasted my time coming in. There's no reason the panel could not have taken place virtually (same as the 1st interview), so I wonder if in person was some kind antiquated mandate in the interview process. Having virtual panels could have solved the availability problem one of the panelist had since they were in office a limited about of time as well. About two weeks after the interview, I received a standard reject email.
