      Customer Benefits Advisor Interview

      26 Aug 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Cleveland, OH
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Unum (Cleveland, OH) in Aug 2022

      Interview

First interview with the recruiter was okay. She did not seem very personable and was very clearly reading word for word from a script. That should have been my first red flag to not more forward but I accepted the next interview step with 2 higher ups in the customer benefits team. While the interviewer was telling me about the company and the position so many red flags were going off in my mind. 1. While being told about the fact that breaks and lunches are scheduled the interviewer states that it is unacceptable to be even a minute late logging back in. 2. I was told that upon accepting this role a work from home contract would need to be signed that included the following clauses 1. You must have a quiet and distraction free office area (ok that makes sense especially while working remote) 2. You must have high speed internet (again this seems like a given to me for remote work) 3. (And the biggest red flag and the reason I withdrew my candidacy) you must agree that you will not be the primary care provider to a child or adult. he went on to state that disciplinary action would be taken if you (the employee) had to leave work early because your kids day care called and they needed to be picked up immediately. My smile began to fade as the went over these requirements. While I do not currently have children of my own it made me realize that this company does not have the values that match my own. Life happens and an employee should not be chastised for something that is out of their control. As the interviewer then asked me a question I told them that I would not be answering the question and respectfully would like to withdraw my application. This took him by surprise and I was questioned what my reasoning is, now I did not owe them a reason but I felt I needed to share that it seems like a very toxic workplace when the company will punish the employee for a family emergency that is out of their control. I Thanked the interviewer for their time today and left the video call.

      Interview

First interview is recorded. You have about one week to complete-you can start the processes at anytime which will be some written Q&A with videos to get to know the company, and then your own recorded responses to questions. Your recorded portion is timed and you get three takes. If you move on, a company recruiter will do a phone interview, ensuring you understand the role and answer questions further about your experience. If you move on from there, you will have a live virtual interview. Questions are mostly behavioral based. There is about 10 minutes section where you are asked some questions about a client case.
