      ESL Teacher Interview

      3 Oct 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Salt Lake City, UT
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at VIPKid (Salt Lake City, UT) in Dec 2016

      Interview

It was very stressful and not objective. In many cases of teacher hires, it is the luck of the draw with the interviewers. Is a very different experience when you are not used to working online, and I don't believe that it is taken into consideration enough by interviewers or interviewees.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked me if I would be able to work the 15 classes per week in the morning and I told them that I would. They told me that I would receive a raise by my 3rd contract. They changed these rules a few months before my 3rd contract hit, however, so I ended up unable to meet the criteria (because I cannot work more of a full time/graveyard shift that a raise requires) and have to wait for another full year to qualify. I still will not qualify as I cannot work earlier than 4 in the morning. Yikes.

VIPKID’s conforms to the “sharing economy” business model. Teachers are able to work as few or as many hours as suits their schedule best, subject only to demand from students booking teachers and the availability schedule chosen by teachers in advance. We are sorry to hear the negative points you touched upon in reference to your time as a VIPKID teacher. We would like extend our person invitation for you to contact us directly by emailing education@vipkid.com.cn mentioning this Glassdoor discussion for a senior member of the support team to help further. Thank you for your teaching and we look forward to receiving follow-up to this end.
