      Mechanical Technician Interview

      26 Sept 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Perth, Scotland
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Vector Aerospace (Perth, Scotland) in Sept 2023

      Interview

The standard application via an agency progressed to an interview online. I failed the initial interview as I didn’t have the technical experience. This is a perfectly good reason for an applicant to fail, although perhaps the CV shouldn’t have made it through. Where it got worse was when the agency contacted me for a second interview as Vector believed I had done well in the first, due to broad knowledgeable. I agreed, so long as it was understood that I hadn’t acquired said missing technical knowledge (of helicopter gearboxes) over the intervening weeks. Incredibly, I didn’t get the second job, and I didn’t even come close. This I find ridiculous. Why would a company lack the collective intelligence not to be able to differentiate between what they require of an individual beforehand, particularly if they have already undergone interview? Very inefficient, to the point of being inept, and something I increasingly find in Scotland where hiring managers (who I should add at Vector all seemed very pleasant) may have a level of technical skill and job knowledge but are lacking a depth and breadth of education. This I believe led to Vector casting the net (twice) far and wide. In the process they wasted my time and their company’s money. A bizarre process indeed.
