      Territory Sales Manager Interview

      12 Dec 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Easton, PA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Victaulic (Easton, PA) in Sept 2018

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter who saw my online resume. I scheduled a phone interview which was rescheduled 10 minutes after the interview time. The recruiter was busy. No big deal, but would have been nice to have advance notice. I too am busy. The rescheduled phone interview happened about a month later. Very basic, quick interview where he wanted me to talk about myself. Only question that stuck out to me was "What is your experience with entertaining customers?" I am accustomed to lunches and an occasional dinner and/or sporting events every now and then. He made it clear to me that Victaulic does a lot of entertaining. I was truthful in mentioning that I value my career ANDfamily and live a balanced life. He said that "I wouldn't want this job with a family". He said that he would talk to the hiring manager and get back to me to set up an interview. I looked forward to speaking to the hiring manager as maybe he had a better perspective on entertaining requirements. Time went on and I didn't hear back. I called and emailed to follow up. No responses over weeks. The job ad remained up for months. The recruiter remains active on LinkedIn. Laughably, he posted an article on "Prospectively Employees Ghosting Employers". In essence the article was about prospective employees not being fair in an interview process by not letting the recruiter know what their intents are... cutting off communication with no responses to phone calls, emails, etc.. Somewhat hypocritical for him to be posting this if you ask me. Seems as if this is part of Victaulic's culture based on other Glassdoor reviews and reported interviews. Victaulic is very anti family based on what I read from past employers, interviews and their recruiter. That doesn't sit well with me. I now work in a position where I influence purchasing decisions in large scale building construcion projects. I don't like the culture behind the product and frankly won't send money their way to support said culture.

Thank you for your feedback on our interview process. As an organization, we are committed to continuous improvement and value input such as yours. We were disheartened to read your feelings about Victaulic being anti-family. Our company is family-owned and as a whole, our employees express a family feel when describing our culture in year-over-year surveys. Certainly roles like those in our Sales team require travel that takes employees away from their families at times. In turn, we offer flexibility in other areas to help Sales employees maintain the balance they need. As a potential customer, we hope you’ll have the opportunity to see why our solutions promote families as well. From connecting pipes faster, increasing jobsite safety and reducing financial risk, our customers are able to get home to their families sooner, unharmed and with peace of mind that a Victaulic system lasts the life of their build. In fact, the relationships we build with our customers often go beyond the lifecycle of their projects too. We hope to have the opportunity to prove this to you. - Carlos, HR Director

      No offer

      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Victaulic

      Interview

I was scheduled to meet with the Regional Sales Manager for coffee early one morning and they said they never told about the interview. We rescheduled for the next week. I was told by both the Regional Sales Manager and the internal recruiter that I would get a 2nd interview. I heard nothing for over three weeks from either the RSM or the recruiter despite reaching out to both. Finally, sent an email thanking them both for the opportunity to interview and that I was assuming I would not be moving forward and received a response 5 minutes later confirming that. Takes minimal effort to follow up with candidates you interview.
