I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Voleon in Sept 2024
Interview
The interviewer didn't ask about my experience or what I’ve done at my current company, which suggests they hadn’t read my resume. With over 10 years of experience, I expected they would have had some questions if they had reviewed it. Instead, they jumped straight into Linux questions. While I was able to answer about 50% of them, it's important to note that as a network engineer, Linux is only a part of my job, not the entirety.
When the interviewer moved on to networking, I was able to answer all of those questions confidently. However, it seemed like they were overly focused on Linux, perhaps under the impression that proficiency in Linux is synonymous with a deep understanding of networking concepts like routing protocols, VPNs, STP, VLANs, WLAN, etc. This experience made me feel like they’re operating under a misconception that knowing Linux alone can solve complex networking problems.
