      Senior Java Engineer Interview

      17 Sept 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Wrocław
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Vonage (Wrocław) in Jul 2023

      Interview

TL;DR: - An excessively lengthy recruitment process - Lack of transparency in the recruitment process - constantly changing process - no feedback - poor communication, lack of response The entire process spanned a duration of two full months! I was recruiting for senior java developer to vonage in Poland. Originally, there were four outlined steps for the entire procedure: 1. An initial call with a recruiter (focused on acquainting me with the company and elucidating the forthcoming steps). 2. A conversation with the hiring manager. 3. A 45-minute call (for which the nature of discussion was not specified). 4. Another 45-minute call (also with an unspecified agenda). However, the actual sequence of events unfolded quite differently: 1. Initial call with recruiter. 2. Call with hiring manager. I really do not know why this step is even done. There were some easy java questions (junior level). I was given a task to complete in online word document. I wrote some pseudo code and provided two solutions. One brute force and one optimal. Task is the same as said in another comments about interview here. That shows that nobody cares about giving/changing it to another task for another candidate. Lazy. Through the whole call the other person looked bored and it seemed that call was redundant even to him. 3. After 2+ weeks I received an email that I got into the final stage(which was NOT). I got a "take home task" with one week deadline. I was working on a task for a few days and sent it back. 4. After 2+ weeks of silence I got an email about going to the final stage(final-final stage apparently) which was a call with 2 potential team members. I was told that this call is for my future team to get to know me, check if we like each other and that we will discuss the task I sent. When the call started I was informed by these 2 team members that they did not even look at that task because they only got this in the morning of the same day as our call. During this call I was once again questioned. There were questions about java, spring etc. I do not understand why there were 2 calls with the same questions. After this call there was 1+ month of silence from their part. During this time I sent 2 emails to recruiter. Then I sent one more but in a form of replying to email he sent me earlier. After few days, he wrote with apologies. He informed me that earlier emails were in SPAM and that's why I did not receive any answer. (I DO NOT KNOW HOW? Our earlier communication was fine). I was told that they will come back with final answer until the end of the week. I got an automated email on wednesday of THE NEXT week that said: "thank you for aplying, at this time we have made the decision to close the position and are no longer accepting applications. You will be notified if there's another job opportunity." :) No feedback, no nothing. I wrote an email to my recruiter to ask about feedback after whole process, no answer till this day. Few days later I got no-reply email from Greenhouse asking about my experience with Vonage's recruitment process and with a link to a survey. To sum up I do not encourage anyone to apply to this company, I wasted many hours on calls and on take home task and after all of it I DID NOT even got any feedback. SHAME. This tells everything you need to know about this company.
