      IT Engineering Manager Interview

      3 Feb 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at WCIRB

      Interview

Originally applied to the position in November 2020. At first the interview process proceeded fairly normally; screening call, hiring manager interview, etc. From there though, I should have guessed something was up. I had to interview FIVE more times, each time only at 30 minutes. I was very suspicious of what you can determine in only 30 minutes of time, especially since all of the interview were very unstructured and not very technical at all. My finally phone interview was another 30 minute call with the hiring manager, essentially covering the same topics of our first 30 minute call. That all wrapped up mid-December. At this point I'm thinking; "well, that's on the long-side but they are a slow-moving institution so maybe I'm OK" At this point I was told by the recruiter "We definitely intend to advance you along in the process", they just had to finish the rest of the candidate they were interviewing. Time passes.... Checked Jan 5: Still waiting for interviews to finish up Checked Jan 29: Interview complete, but no updates Feb 2nd: Notified that they were no longer interested. Now, I don't mind that I may not be the right candidate for their position. Honestly I'm not even sure they really knew what they were looking for until perhaps they had my interviews as a baseline. I do take exception to being strung along for so long. I long ago gave-up thinking I was going to get this position, but my morbid curiosity wondered how long they would string me along. Well, they easily shattered my personal record by a factor of 2 at the minimum(and I even work at a large HMO) My only hope at this point is that the future candidates will read my plight and that I can provide food-for-thought before accepting a position at this organization.

      Question 1

Standard soft questions: - How do you address technical debt - How to motivate team when not working on state-of-the-art projects - Thoughts on resolving bugs and preventing change-induced outages
