There wasn't a job advertised, but I knew I wanted to work in the industry, and I just gave it a shot. I looked up the Production Manager's email on Nexstar's site and sent him a cover letter and resume. Within a few days, he gave me a call and we set up an interview time. I don't think there was any interview-type questions during the phone call. We had a nice conversation, I remember.
Anway, the in-person interview ended up being very informal. When I got there, I sat in the waiting room and waited for him. After he met me in the lobby, he took me on a tour of the studio, and we eventually made our way into his office. He just asked me why I wanted to work at WHAG and what I'd like to do in the future. He didn't have that stiff job interviewer vibe, so I was at ease the whole time. I was offered a job on the spot and started a week later. There were no skills, personality, drug or IQ tests done, so it was relatively painless process.
It was a pretty casual experience overall. If you are confident and affable, you'll do great.
