Had a phone call with HR where we talked about my background and experience. Then I came to the office, where I had a writing test and talked to some employees.
I applied online. I interviewed at Wakefield Research in Jun 2015
Interview
I applied after finding the posting on LinkedIn. I did not hear back for several weeks, and received an email to set up a short phone conversation (5-10) minutes. After I confirmed a good time to speak, the person sent a reply, asking for my salary requirements. I responded by stating I wanted to wait until I was further in the process to get a better idea of what was expected and that my salary history is private.
I checked my email periodically and waited to see if I would get a response in the next hour, but after not seeing a reply I went about my day. A few hours later I got a response stating that providing current salary and salary history was standard for candidates and Wakefield would only move forward with people who did. And good luck with my search. This was after we had confirmed we would have a phone conversation and had set a time and date for it.
While I am fully aware it's a risk that something like this would happen if a candidate declines to provide salary information, I found this rather appalling. I had not actually spoken to anyone over the phone or in person so I found the request for such information so early in the process a huge red flag. In the end it's best that I don't have to waste my time setting aside time for an interview or having to get dressed up and paying for transportation to go somewhere.
