      Principal Architect Interview

      28 Feb 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Kansas City, MO
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at WellSky (Kansas City, MO) in Feb 2018

      Interview

The initial interview with the executive went fine. The subsequent phone screen was a disaster. The phone screen started normally, with a programming exercise conducted over a WebEx. We talked through solutions, discussed optimization and design considerations, and chatted about technology options. Everything seemed to be going well until near the end of the screen. At this point, the interview turned antagonistic, with the interviewer accusing me of Googling for answers. For the record, I did not. He could see my screen. Two days later, I received a call from the recruiter. "They want to bring you on as a Senior Developer, and maybe at some point promote you to Architect." Never mind the fact that I've been working as an Architect in this industry for over ten years. In three days, they managed to thoroughly insult me professionally. I declined to continue the process. The phone screen could be put down to a single bad actor, but I have to assume that the "offer" to ignore the last ten years of my career had to pass through several eyes, including in HR. The only way to account for this behavior is that there must be a badly toxic corporate culture at this company. Avoid.
