This company used a very shady practice in this hiring process. Let me explain.
Applied for the job posting and setup initial intake call with TA specialist. Was told they are “moving fast” to fill, so wanted to rush the interview with the hiring manager. Then told the interview would be on-site and if I was OK with that. I was, so made arrangements to take time off for it. When I get info on the interview it’s a Teams call so I took time off for basically nothing. Maybe that disconnect of not knowing the actual hiring process should have been a red flag, but I continued on.
After filling out an online application (another flag, as it was basically the same as the initial application) I met with manager on Teams. It was then I was told that the position wasn’t even for what I applied for, but rather as a lab testing engineer with a network-related background.
At that point I declined to continue as this wasn’t what I applied for and spent time and effort preparing for. They even attached the details to applied for job to the appointment schedule, so why send and post for job “A” then try to interview for job “B”? This amounted to a bait-and-switch, which is a pretty unethical hiring practice.
