      Java Backend Engineer, Platform Interview

      5 Mar 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Zoom Communications (San Francisco, CA) in Feb 2021

      Interview

Recruiter found me on hired, then reached out on linkedIn, which i thought was odd, maybe to skip out on paying hired.com. Good recruiter info, explained the role, talked about what the process was, coding challenge, then an onsite. Recruiter asked a few silly Trivia questions, then sent a link to a codeSignal test. It was a 90 minute timed test. with 2 Medium Leet code questions, AND a Sql stored procedure, question combining 3 tables, and doing counts and aggergates... not trivial. Overall it was more difficult that the Amazon interview process. I dont know how you could pass that without having seen both Coding challenges before. IMO, its way way too high of a bar for a company like Zoom which sounded like they were in chaos, with re-orgs and replacing an entire 500 person Eng org from China, with US. I suspect there is some Gatekeeping going on with engineers not being happy so many people were getting the hook, and replaced wholesale.
