I received a call at 7pm at the end of the week and it was a call back from a mysterious company that I had applied to weeks prior. I was told to come in for an interview and at first it seemed too good to be true for an employer to want to move things along so quickly.
During the interview, the owner and Controller sat me down to ask me questions. Immediately, I noticed how the owner belittles the controller and speaks about her as if she is not right next to her. They argued back and forth right in front of me and I even asked if I should come back at a better time. The owner just gives a fake smile and thinks it is completely normal. Having experience dealing with these types of beings in the past - I began to feel uneasy as I thought for a second that I may fall victim to this behavior - but I needed a job. And that's the thing - the owner knows you need a job and people that need a job are easy to prey on.
When it was time to take the tests to determine my skill level, the landlord of the property who also is just there all the time began to question my knowledge before I could even finish the test. I got hired on the spot based on my ability to shut down his argument? Literally, the controller printed out the papers for me to sign on the spot. But she also warned me that the owner is the main problem of the company and she asked if I even checked the companies employee reviews online. But I accepted the job in good faith with hopes that I wouldn't fall victim to the hostile work environment.
