      Software Engineer Interview

      3 Dec 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at think-cell in Sept 2016

      Interview

I got a programming question per Email and I have 6 hours to finish it. The question is mild difficult, and the key point is that you need to design test cases and write down an efficient algorithm. I did not pass the test and I got an email feedback which gave me several hints where I could do wrong.

      Interview

The take-home assignment was a technically engaging challenge centered around building a small library using advanced C++ template techniques — a great opportunity to showcase skills in modern C++. The task itself was well-designed and thought-provoking. For engineers who enjoy template-heavy programming, this is a process where you can really shine and demonstrate your depth of knowledge from the very start.

      Software Engineer Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

      Interview

I did not proceed very far in the process, as I decided to withdraw early. Before having the opportunity to speak with anyone at the company, I was asked to complete a take-home programming assignment. The task involved implementing a small library and relied heavily on advanced C++ template techniques. While the assignment was technically interesting, I would have preferred to have at least an initial conversation with someone from the company before investing significant time in a take-home exercise. For candidates who enjoy modern C++ and template-heavy programming, the process may be a good fit, but I personally found the order of the process somewhat unusual.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for your thoughtful feedback. We understand your perspective that having an initial conversation before investing time in a take-home assignment is valuable. The process you described has since changed: as of September 2025, every candidate has an introductory conversation with us before receiving the assignment. Thank you again for sharing your perspective, and we wish you all the best. Best regards, People Team

      Interview

Initial interview talking about CV and previous experience as well as what technologies I was familiar with. Online technical assessment, one exercise. You have 10 hours to complete it but I used it all to make sure my answer was correct. The key of the exercise is STL containers and algorithms.
