Logistics services provider Argix Direct wants to cut out the middleman -- specifically, the regional distribution center. Argix Direct labels, sorts, and dispatches merchandise at its Retail Sort Centers, which can handle some 220,000 cartons a day. Goods are sent to the company's more than 40 store delivery terminals nationwide and then delivered directly to more than 7,000 retail stores. The company maintains that deliveries can be made more efficiently and cost effectively if regional distribution centers are bypassed. Customers have included Ann Taylor, Barnes & Noble, Blockbuster, and Nine West.
