SMART is smart because of its memory. SMART Modular Technologies is a top designer and manufacturer of memory products such as flash memory cards, solid-state drives (SSDs), and DRAM modules. The company offers more than 500 products and supply chain services for OEMs in the computer, defense, gaming, networking, telecom, and other sectors. Its largest customers include HP, Cisco, and Dell. SMART's advantage is its fast product turnaround for customers. The Americas account for about three-quarters of sales. In 2011 SMART was taken private by Silver Lake Partners and Silver Lake Sumeru in a deal valued at around $645 million.
