ShengdaTech Snapshot
At ShengdaTech, big minds produce small matter. The chemical company develops and produces nano particles used as additives in the manufacture of paints, paper, plastics, and rubber. ShengdaTech co-developed its ultra-fine nano-precipitated calcium carbonate (NPCC) technology with Tsinghua University, making it the only Chinese manufacturer of NPCC able to supply the country's tire market. NPCC (with an annual production capacity of about 190,000 metric tons) accounts for about half of ShengdaTech's sales and is used to make PVC building materials and newsprint. ShengdaTech also makes coal-based chemicals used in fertilizers and pesticides. The company filed for Chapter 11 in 2011 and is under an SEC investigation.
