The firm is a fabless semiconductor company that designs chips for use in a wide variety of high-tech gear, including telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics devices, and computers. Huge demand in China for chips led Sunplus to expand its business throughout the mainland, forming subsidiaries in Chengdu, Shanghai, and Shenzhen. The company relies on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, United Microelectronics, and other silicon foundries (contract semiconductor manufacturers) to fabricate its devices. Sunplus was founded in 1990.
