Description Home is on the range for Tejon Ranch. Once one of the largest cattle ranches in the US, the company hasn't run livestock on its 270,000 acres in more than a decade. Instead, Tejon Ranch has focused on residential and commercial real estate development on its land, which is located 60 miles north of Los Angeles. But the historic ranch, which was founded as a Mexican land grant in 1843, hasn't totally sold out. In 2008 Tejon Ranch stuck a deal with major environmental groups to conserve about 90% of the vast chunk of open land, or about 240,000 acres. The company's directors, through equity investment firms, control around 36% of Tejon Ranch.
