Description From the Arctic to the Antarctic, the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM) promotes peace and security, deters aggression, responds to crises, and fights wars throughout its Asia-Pacific territory. USPACOM is the oldest and largest of the US Department of Defense's unified commands. Its area of responsibility includes more than 50 countries, territories, and possessions covering 50% of the earth's surface (approximately 105 million square miles), 60% of the global population, and 16 time zones. Established in 1947, USPACOM is located at Camp H.M. Smith in Hawaii. Its staff consists of Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps officers and enlisted personnel, and civil servants.
