Lack of Work/Life Balance

Pros

The subject matter at 2e is incredibly compelling - medicine and life sciences are so complex and robust. There truly are some good, kind, amazing people who work at 2e. So smart too!

Cons

There is little to no work/life balance here. People work 50-70 hours a week on the regular and laugh and scoff at others who want to have a healthy length work week - essentially saying that if you just work 40 hours a week, you are not working hard enough. People constantly feel guilty for taking time off and the internal scrutiny is so palpable when you walk out the door at 5pm. As 2e gets busier, their benefits and perks are slowly getting worse and worse. The company has gotten too profit-driven and corporate from its creative roots and now feels like the company does not care about its people.

Pros

Unlimited PTO Good benefits Decent culture (from the outside looking in)

Cons

This place is a train wreck. And directionless. You get hired and then are fed to the wolves. They tell you to ask if you need help but make you feel incompetent once you do. There is no onboarding, no clear goal on anything, and the irony isn't lost on the fact that this is a "brand communications agency" with such a dire lack of internal & external communication. In my time there, I saw so many displeased clients who were upset over things we should have had under control. The turnover rate is through the roof, whether you're getting fired for no reason or just trying to jump ship before we all go down. Tip: If you get fired, just know that the ENTIRE office probably knew about 3 days before you. Oh and expect to not have a life due to calls, texts, & emails at all hours. This place is a nightmare. Save yourself the stress.

Thanks for providing this feedback. 2e is in an exciting state of growth and evolution. While we've done what much of our staff would agree is a noble job of managing positive culture and balance in the context of great change, one inevitable side effect of metamorphosis is the need to part ways with employees who aren't aligned with our team mission and values. It's likely that this was the case here. In late 2016, we completely overhauled our onboarding and training procedures, which we agree is a critical ingredient in a positive experience.

Ruined through M&A

Pros

Prior to being acquired, 2e was my personal dream job. Incredibly smart, talented coworkers; engaged leadership that cared; well-organized and managed departments that worked collaboratively to solve our clients challenges. Creative. Strategic. And FUN.

Cons

Once acquired by Fishawack Health, management and leadership changed dramatically as did the vision for the company. The agency model changed to a network and became gigantic. C-suite & senior leaders were not able to be as involved or have visibility to abuses happening below the surface. What was once a welcoming and encouraging place to grow a career became increasingly toxic and unsustainable. The hardest part was that the leaders at the very top did not care about the abuses and issues manifesting at the smaller satellite company level. Even when exposed to clear violations of respect, abuses of power and unprofessional behavior, they turned a blind eye and allowed the abusers to continue their tactics without consequences. I saw the very worst displays of workplace citizenship get overlooked and employees who should have been reprimanded (or fired), were emboldened.
