Pros

I guess I learned a lot?

Cons

I cannot sum up what happened here without digging into Pandora's box of bad memories. I've never been made to feel so poorly about my work, never made to feel so inept, as I did here. The clients are chaotic, the management structure is poor at best, and said managers don't share the same vision as the CEO. I took a lower salary to get out of a bad position prior, so at the six months mark when I asked for a raise so that I could pay my bills, I was met with "you're not as good as you think you are." There were so many problems here. I cannot start to explain. The only solace I've found is from other coworkers who have escaped, all of whom were among the crowd of diversity the CEO promised was of highest importance. It's disgraceful, really.

Calling every other review "a lie" is clearly a blanket overstatement. While I'm saddened by this individuals experience, I think there's a misunderstanding with respect to how difficult being a consultant actually is. Additionally, with respect to diversity I fully own our issues with hiring diverse talent, but claiming that it's "easily fixed by just looking harder" also demonstrates a gross misunderstanding of the hiring market and how problematic it is to find diverse talent that holds up to our hiring standards. Chaos is normal in a growing company. This individual is best suited to a company with structure, performance reviews, and ladders/checkboxes to climb. That is not 7Factor right now, nor will it be us in the future. I started this company to escape those paradigms because I know them to be ineffective. Additionally, since I've never said "no" to a single request for a raise in the history of the company (which I can prove through our HRIS system), I am 100% confident this individual did receive the raise they asked for. I'm sad that this review was posted and apologize to the employee for anything we did that caused them to feel this way, and we will learn from it. I wish this individual the best of luck. -jduv

Pros

Variety of work Leadership has a very wide breadth of experience Opportunity to wear many hats Unlimited PTO

Cons

Actions from leadership didn't always reflect promises made. Being a start up, it wasn't the most supportive environment. You are mostly responsible for your survival, as leadership was often buried in their own work.

I appreciate the candid review, as always. We are a company of kind candor focused on ensuring that everyone gets their chance to give feedback and make the company better. Thank you! Support is provided by all team members across multiple projects, something you never see in other consulting firms. This provides a broad network of humans that can help consultants with any form of problem but does require effort on the part of the individual to seek out what they need. You must take advantage of the community in order to get the support required, as an individual leader cannot scale past a few people and be effective. As with high performing company, you are in fact, responsible for your own destiny. This mentality is displayed and is successful at Google, Facebook, and many other very successful software engineering companies--those companies just have infinite resources that allow them to do things a small, 30 person start-up, unfortunately, can not. At 7Factor you have the freedom to take ownership of your career and drive it as far as you'd like it to go but that requires effort on the employee's part and support from leadership. I realize that's not an ideal setting for some folks looking for a more structured career path but we are successful precisely because of that spirit. I encourage this employee if they feel comfortable, to reach out to me directly and I will happily have a private, non-retaliatory, open dialog about any challenges they have. If they feel like they are not supported I'd love a chance to solve that problem immediately and will happily apologize for any perceived corporate Darwinism (which is healthy to a point). - Jduv

Pros

- A culture of software engineering and following best practices - Cloud native - Remote-first - Competitive pay and benefits (5 weeks PTO, medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K match, bonus) - Engineers are always willing to help - Slack for communication. Emails are discouraged - Small, empowered, and high-performing teams - Trust in their employees - Transparent communication from leadership - You get rewards for getting certified - A wide array of technology stacks and projects to be involved with (Java, .NET, Ruby, Rust, IoT, Go, Web, Mobile, you name it) - Learning and sharing knowledge is highly encouraged. Lunch and learns every Friday - There is a high bar for quality

Cons

None. Of all places I've worked at (5) this one has been the best. It's not an easy job. It can get very challenging with all the things you need to learn for a given project but you will get all the support you need.
