Pros

Depends on which team you're with. Some teams are great, some aren't. Majority of co-workers is quite nice. Workload varies depending on the time of the year

Cons

Underpay is common - you don't generally get recognised for the (extra) work you have done. So little to no career progression here if you're not from best winning teams. For junior to intermediate engineers, sales really aren't going to be your main duty - you're basically just the workhorses here but you get the blame if your projects don't make a profit (because the overhead is just too high and uncompetitive sometimes) Directive from higher management is interesting. They don't care about flexibility. You're required to go into the work everyday (in the midst of covid especially) and honestly it's not a bad thing for some people but really in a world that's rapidly adapting and changing - are you sticking to the old fashion and claim that you're the leading innovator in the industry?

Pros

Majority of the people are good. Concept of working on research projects is good. Office location is ok. Surprisingly the computers and tech setup is good.

Cons

If you are not based in Melbourne, you don't exist to the organisation. Poor and disorganised management. CEO has outdated ideas that you must work work work in order to be recognised. Mentoring and development is non-existent for early-career levels.

Pros

Its great to work with enquiring minds. The people are generally friendly and helpful. Work can be very interesting, but (as you would expect in a research organisation) you need to have a head for your subject area, patience with the process, conscientiousness and ability to handle and learn from criticism. There is support for further study (if you pursue it).

Cons

Slow career progression compared with a consultancy or engineering firm. Projects can be very long and progress very slowly.
