Where do I even begin. This place was growing exponentially about 6 years ago and now people can't wait to leave this place. Most of them already have. Why you ask. Let me try to break it down for you:
1. Middle-Managers - The worst rung of the ladder. They have very little technical knowledge or expertise to guide the team reporting to them. They are heavily dependent on the overworked and underpaid Team Leads for the day to day operations. All they know to do well is how to ingratiate themselves with the client.
- No people management skills with insecurity in abundance because of which they are reluctant to give anybody under them a chance to grow or shine.
- Not a single new manager was hired between 2017-2020 and every new project was dumped on one of these.
- It is not like that complaints were not raised about these folk's behavior and leadership style but I guess the top management was in no mood to hire better, smarter people with basic human traits like empathy and emotional intelligence required to be an effective leader.
- This middle tier, in any decent process-oriented organization, would not survive a week, which is why they are languishing in this place for years and discouraging young talent and quashing their aspirations with politics and truly pathetic mind-games a 5 year old can see through.
2. Technology - For the longest time, this firm worked on an in-house analytics tool which was so slow people literally use to take long naps during weekly data processing loads. They finally switched the tool, but brought in Datorama, a tool very sparsely used in the outside world. Also, nobody got a say in it. You just had to start learning it and working on it because the org said so.
Incompetent middle management coupled with obsolete/useless tech and meager salaries is the the primary reason for the brain-drain.
3. HR - In simple terms, an HR's job is to make the employee's life easier by creating employee friendly policies and making sure that the grievances are heard and timely resolutions are provided. In case of Annalect, it is the opposite.
- The HR is usually busy snooping on the employee's Naukri, LinkedIn profiles. They also have shamelessly call up junior employees and ask them about their job search history. They are not alone in this though. Some of the above mentioned managers do the same and ask the team leads to keep an eye on junior resources' Linkedin/Naukri activity.
- And god forbid, if you decide to leave the company. They will leave no stone unturned to make your exit as miserable and painful as possible.
- I know people who sat on bench for two entire months but were not allowed to leave. They would rather you come to office, gossip the whole day and go back, than release you early.
- and in case they agree to leave you sooner, they are going to squeeze your pockets dry. You can not leave without paying the full salary of the remaining days, WITH GST. So any bonus/prizes they you would've received during your term here, you would end up returning it as notice period payment if you want to leave early (for senior folks, the notice period is 3 months).
- I personally do not know of a single person who left this place happy and without bitterness.
The place has the potential to become a world-class analytics agency but the incompetence plaguing the middle-tier and an absolutely misguided HR team will never let it become one.
