The IS department is plagued by absentee or hands-off management and the department is left flailing. Some people step up to try to lead, only to be stretched too thin, or marginalized depending on where they fall politically on that day. IS is re-orged every 6 months or so without addressing the real problems. To be fair, IS also the victim of a general problem with work prioritization at BCU, everything has to get done, everything is urgent, you can never say no. There there will never be enough resources to support that model at BCU or anywhere else. (There seems to be some progress made in this area recently.)
Unfortunately the "boys club" culture is alive, well and cultivated at BCU. What is particularly heartbreaking is watching women attempt to make positive changes and suggestions only to be ignored or turned down (or marginalized as mentioned above), while men who make the same suggestions are taken more seriously.
