Pros

I think that organization has done a great job conveying its mandate of empowering Canadian entrepreneurs to their employees. You look around at the senior management and everyone has been here for years. People are warm and friendly. It’s a large organization with a SME feel (which is fitting). There’s a big emphasis on coaching and personal development, which is really nice to have. I have definitely benefited from this greatly in my time.

Cons

Despite great PD, career progression is definitely a concern in Advisory. Very flat organizational structure with no foreseeable way of moving up other than making lateral moves. The majority of the people that have left the team have cited this as a reason for leaving, as they had tried to soldier on with no incentive in sight and eventually left in frustration. Honestly, it’s painful to say. It’s such a great organization, but if you want to move forward in management consulting, an exit is unfortunately inevitable, unless you’re okay with transitioning into another role in the bank.

Pros

Nice office space located downtown Montreal, generally friendly people. Opportunities to move within the company. Some decent job security, after all it's a crown corp but there have been layoffs. Pay isn't great, but benefits are good. Heard other departments are better to work for than IT.

Cons

I worked in their IT department. IT is a clique and very disjointed. Too much bureaucracy, managers doing one thing, and people not effectively doing their job causing a lot of delays. Very influenced by outside consultants who pitch a product to senior management then suddenly we have to implement and work on it. Too many meetings where nothing gets done. A few opinionated folks will completely slam you without understanding the risks and bigger picture. Work from home very frowned upon. Overall leadership is lacking. Be prepared to work on a legacy technologies unfortunately, there's very little cool work.

Pros

Great Benefit Plan Great Pension Plan Flex Days Mediorce salary for this position 50% of Employees generally seemed to care about Entrepenuers 50% of Senior Management want to help you improve your work performance to improve your chances of promotion

Cons

Work/Life/Balance exists depending on who you worked for OR if you were like or a visible minority. Procedures followed by some people but not by all. If major err existed lawyers were called in to clean up messes. Favourtism and nepotism by some Senior Management and VP's. The former Ombudsman was part of the "Old Boys Club" whose cottage was on the same lake as the Senior Managers. No biased there...right? No confidentiality with this person at all and worked on behalf of the company towards Company resolutions. Someone said that you could work 20 hours and get paid for 40. Some of the Senior Managers were very skilled at this and have absolutely no problem flaunting this. Culture and values looks good on paper and if you are a "chosen" employee. Otherwise, widow dressing.
