Cons
Bergmann Associates is a great place for young professionals to get the experience they need in order to find a better job at a different company. An article in the Rochester Business Journal from June of last year notes that young architects and engineers have been leaving this firm in droves. The reason is because the project managers and principals seem to be stuck in a "This is the way it has always been done, so there's no use in changing it" mentality akin to management practices from the 1980s. Tradition trumps innovation/efficiency here. If you end up in any of their satellite offices, prepare to be treated like the redheaded stepchild of the firm. There is poor communication and management where executive decisions and programs from the main office (Rochester) don't get released to the other offices until after the fact, or at worst - not at all. This has led to much confusion, rumors, and misdirection that has caused projects and developments to stay in limbo for months or suddenly get dropped without explanation. The firm is continuing to downsize due to poor investments throughout the previous year. Meanwhile, upper management usually creates new titles among themselves around every five years or so to protect their inner circle and keep interests close to the vest. Lastly, there is no culture at Bergmann. Bergmann Associates is a money-driven firm, not a purpose-driven one.
