Pros

cheap vintage/oxfamy clothing - goes well when you get paid the minimum wage. make sure to wash it yourself or risk of fleas

Cons

the most horribly managed company I ever worked for. you get paid the minimum possible wage and squeezed like a lemon. in addition to that, the health and safety of the place is dodgy : dust of old, dirty clothes everywhere and never cleaned ( you get asked to clean after you finish your shift, please not the type of dirt and dust in the place should be cleaned by professionals as it's really bad and accumulated in years and years of no cleaning at all), broken radiators that spit out even more dirt in the air ( so many times I worked with jackets and scarves for 8 hours as the temperature was like working outdoor in winter), alive mice/ dead mice, filthy kitchen. several chest infections due to the mix of cold and lack of hygiene.

Pros

I made a lot of friends with other staff. The discount on clothes was good but not great. Can play your own music on-shift.

Cons

Unpaid lunch break, horrible working conditions (freezing in Winter, boiling in Summer, no sunlight as it's in a basement, dusty and dirty), paid minimum wage and in a meeting to discuss a living wage told it wouldn't be possible despite being an outwardly ethical company, often left alone to fulfill repetitive and monotonous tasks, underqualified manager, no incentives for good work, terribly managed, horrible gossip culture, mice in all areas of the company, no training for heavy lifting, there is so much wasted potential as shop staff are often University graduates from creative backgrounds but this was never utilised, an obvious divide between shop staff and head office, claims to promote progression within the company yet would rather hire an outsider than train you, managers would dismiss mental health concerns of staff, no HR, no budgets, a lot of stress for little gain.

Pros

people you meet cultures and values sound good on paper

Cons

minimal training cultures and values not actually stuck too very low wage for amount and type of work lots of manual handling with no training confidentiality does not exist in this company, breached all the time big divide in how store/warehouse staff and office staff are treated when it comes to pay and benefits very gossipy promotes sustainability but stocks unsustainable new plastic products, still uses paper receipts and plastic bags only perk is the discount which you can't afford to spend
