Was like a worker from the film ‘Metropolis’
Pros
My coworkers were amazing. I worked with so many wonderful people who I still talk to today and are the only reason I made it through the season. We kept each other going when we all wanted to give up.
Cons
I worked seasonally over Christmas and the hours were insane, you had to work overtime even if you didn’t want to. I worked 22 days without a day off, getting in around 6am and often not leaving until 9 or 10. We were never given more than a half hour lunch even though we were working insanely long hours and our manager would continually forget to give us our 15 minute breaks. You were given little choice in your hours and expected to work the hours they told you. The management from mid to upper had zero regard for their lower level seasonal employees. We were not people, just cogs in the wheel of their company. Even though, without us, they wouldn’t be able to function. The management never communicated to you when you could go home and were incredibly disorganized and rude. After working a 16 hour day 22 days in a row a simple thank you would be nice but no such gratitude was ever given. They knew we were all too poor to quit and took advantage of us every step of the way. If you want to kill yourself for a couple months in a cold and depressing warehouse essentially being a sweat shop worker elf then this is the job for you otherwise I would suggest finding something else.
