Pros

Definitely a place where the team is smart and it has a "start up" feel to it in terms of lots of optimism and signs of growth. The pay and benefits are also solid and there's a chance to work with some great clients. Solid work-life balance if you aren't on the technical side of things.

Cons

It's very political for such a small company. Lots of swift announcements that are awkward, tons of turnover, and a general "unease" a lot. The CEO is overly involved in everything which makes for a challenging work environment. Also, this team is really, really lacking in D&I. It's male-dominated which makes for a poor work environment too since there are no women in any leadership positions. I think if you are looking for good pay and get "start up" experience, it's a nice to have on the resume. Even though CB4 is 11 years old, you are still getting a startup experience although it is hardly truly a start up at this point. There isn't tons of rooms for growth considering the pace that the business is growing.

We’re so disappointed that this was your experience working at CB4 and that you wouldn’t recommend working with us. We care about how everyone on the team feels about working here, and we want former team members to remember CB4 as a supportive place to advance their career. We completely agree that D&I in leadership is a challenge for us right now and within the startup space in general. It’s a huge focus for CB4 this year! We’re working now with our investors and advisors at Sequoia Capital and Octopus Ventures to bring on more diverse talent as we grow. One of CB4's core values is “Speak Your Mind.” While we wish that you had a better experience during your time, we really appreciate the time you took to give us your straightforward feedback. We wish you the best of luck in your next opportunity.

Pros

Nothing good to say about.

Cons

- Unpleasant people and environment. - Unorganized RD teams. Something is wrong with the management of the whole R&D team. People just look unhappy to come and work at this place.

Pros

- Good pay but so is any other start-up tech company in the US - I think this company is perfect for fresh college graduates. Stay and learn here for a year or two.

Cons

- Employees. CB4 boasts they continually improve the conditions of their employees and that it’s striving to become an employer of the year by winning various awards from places like Inc.com and builtinnyc.com among others. But If you look at LinkedIn data, the medium tenure hasn’t changed since 2009. This means people don’t stay with the company longer, so CB4’s claims of any ‘positive’ changes are not working. - Customers. Not great advocacy from customers. If you check out their case studies page online, you will notice that majority of the case studies they were able to secure were small, regional convenience stores. By the way, about 5 of these case studies are irrelevant as some of them are no longer CB4’s customers. - Product. Currently, CB4’s main and only focus is for brick and mortar retailers. Physical retail space is a tough market to be in this digital age. Each year globally more and more people change their buying habits to online as it offers more convenience, safety and saves them time. Many brands leverage rich interactive online experiences that replace those that retail spaces used to offer so there’s less and less incentive to go to the physical store. In my opinion, if CB4 doesn’t rethink its core product offering and re-orient itself to start thinking about shifting global behavior patterns it won’t survive for long. - Finances. The company doesn’t seem to be financially solid. Any small changes in the market or a loss of a customer almost certainly is going to send a shock wave throughout the entire company. So be ready to navigate in rocky waters if you decide to work there. Other things worth mentioning: - Drives image of inclusion and diversity but more of a marketing ploy than a practiced culture. See their leadership page. There are no BIPOC or female VPs as of (April 2021). - Politics and top-down hierarchy. - They make people sign vicious and inhuman one-way NDAs and separation agreements. People basically waive any rights to speak up. Don’t be surprised to see so many positive reviews and so little negative ones for that exact reason.

We're sorry to read that this was your experience at CB4. We want to take a moment to respond to the points you raised. Employees: CB4's inclusion in Best Places to Work at Inc & BuiltInNYC is based on anonymous employee surveys. In the last two years, we've doubled the length of our paid family leave policy in the US, set aside funds for each employee toward the learning and development initiative of their choice outside work, added summer Fridays in the US/UK, and more. We run regular anonymous surveys to learn how we can do better and take everyone's feedback to heart. Customers: We love our customers and many have been with us for years. Some of them want privacy, so we only feature those who opt in to having their logo included on our Customers page. We're always updating the website as we bring on customers and as others move on—all partners listed are current. If there's a short lag sometimes, it's not deliberate. Product: As retail grows more omnichannel, the role of physical stores is changing—but not diminishing. Store teams must now act like online order fulfillment centers and satisfy in-store shoppers. They need new solutions that empower them to rise to this challenge, and we're there with them. Millions work in retail worldwide, and we're on a mission to make the experience easier and more rewarding for them and their shoppers. At the same time, retailers have a vested interest in making their stores amazing because in-store purchases are much more profitable for them than online ones. Last, the e-comm retail tech space is saturated and we're not afraid to stand out from the crowd. Finances: As a start up working with enterprise retailers, every customer is important and a major priority for our business. We’re proud of our retention rate and the job our customer success team does to continuously add value for our partners. We are thrilled to be one of the few retail-focused startups to have grown during Covid-19, and are grateful to be in a position to raise a Series C investment round as retail is on the upswing. Thank you for speaking your mind. We wish you felt differently, but appreciate the time you took and the opportunity you gave us to respond. Best of luck in your next endeavor!
