Pros
- Many people are kind - People are for the most part very intelligent and it’s possible to learn a lot - There’s in many cases no lack of work to be done
Cons
- Some teams are operating on bare bones resources - Morale has been on the lower side for many - Some of the leadership’s EQ could stand to be much higher - For many, there’s less optimism for growth opportunities and more concern about potential reductions or doing more with less - Burnout is a big concern for many people - Feels like concerns and issues get swept under the rug or marginalized as not being super meaningful

Great people, Great Job, Great benefits, but no growth
18 May 2023 - Programmatic and Data Manager in London, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- They really do hire the best and brightest - Culture is great - Top tier benefits/perks/pension, especially as part of umbrella company (WBD) - Work / life balance is good as well - Was proud to say I was part of not only CNN but WarnerMedia and then Warner Bros. Discovery
Cons
- Sadly CNN has been bounced around a lot due to mergers and acquisitions. Leading to lay offs and general anxiety around job security - Trying to get an internal promotion was a chore, eventually led to looking elsewhere. The main issue is due to budgets being controlled at such a level that employees become numbers and not humans. Leading to lots of leavers and more expensive hires, losing lots of good talent.

Not recommended currently, but I’m a few years might change
26 May 2023 - Senior Software Engineer in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
There is a new Chief Technology Officer. Maybe a more competent company will buy CNN.
Cons
Don’t get a say in your code. Lots of stress and extra hours. Death March of features. Cicd pipeline is considered tech debt. No TPM or QA for two years. People keep leaving, but we aren’t allowed to hire anyone. We aren’t allowed to promote anyone or give them a raise. We aren’t allowed to fire anyone. Very little diversity. Say they are targeting a newer audience but continue to cater to the same groups. Treats remote workers poorly.

Pros
Smart, creative people who you can learn a lot from. Chance to work with people from all around the world. Good benefits for perm staff.
Cons
Lack of work life balance depending on what role you have. Too many people who have been there for a long time who can be stuck in poor habits or afraid to innovate.

Pros
Name recognition, passionate and talented colleagues
Cons
A lot of people are comfortable being miserable, creating a negative and toxic environment. There is a lot of office politics/favoritism at play that decides who is considered for promotion vs who needs to apply to be considered. Lack of transparency and communication.
