- Former Employee, less than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
I found that my direct supervisors, coworkers and HR were extremely helpful. I particularly enjoyed that the CEO did a lot of small kind gestures for his team such as sending gifts for every holiday and birthdays. The team environment was exceptionally strong and there were a plethora of people who made it a great place to work. Onsite access to a gym with a personal trainer, great insurance benefits, and a subsidized cafeteria were all excellent benefits as well. I felt genuinely cared about while I worked at CPI.
Cons
Unfortunately, while all the positives are great but at the end of the day, work needs to pay well and the same position just lacked the pay of other jobs. Security systems most times are a minimum 25-50 minute sales call and the pay per sale was relatively meager when compared to other industries where a 10 minute sale would net you about the same money. Additionally, even if a customer was installed with service, you don't receive payment for sales in which auto pay isn't set up. That being said, all of these are really just comparisons with other workplaces. I think if you're fresh out of college, these comparisons don't exist and you might thrive a bit more. I think if the sales positions paid about $10-15k more, I probably would have stayed considerably longer. The people are excellent. The pay just needs to match what's out there in the market.

Solid Company but the pay is mostly commision based
8 Feb 2023 - Residential Sales Representative in Columbia, SCRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
In-house. no contracting/contractors. tier based commissions.
Cons
expected amount of driving to find leads (even with some given to you) usually results in going over the alotted gas card amount every month. this results in having to pay out of pocket
- Former Employee, less than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
The training program is paid for, and you're there for a week.
Cons
No Flexibility, even though that's what they preach. There's no true leadership. They'll preach that they're family-friendly, but that's a lie. You must work evenings even though they claim you can work whenever you want/can.

Because we are a security company that monitors homes and businesses around the clock, many positions require weekend and overnight work. Although, there are plenty of positions that follow standard Monday through Friday hours. We are sorry you are not enjoying your experience at CPI, and we want to ensure that changes. Please reach out to HR at humanresources@cpisecurity.com so we can address any of your concerns. Thank you.

Thank you for your review! Making your own schedule and having no cap on your commission-based salary are two reasons are sales positions are highly sought-after. We’re happy to have you on the team and hope you are taking full advantage of the opportunities at CPI.

Pros
CPI is great for singles. You will be expected to work extremely long hours. You earn good money. Benefits are good. ROLEX after 10 years.
Cons
This company turned from a family company to a corporate monster. They cared for employees at one time, now you are just a number and can easily be dismissed. This company is all about the “good ole boys network”. If you question your supervisor on anything, you will never get promoted. The managers will prevent you from promotion by making false reviews and bad references to the senior management just to protect themselves.

Pros
The benefits are unbelievable. The pay is great, you get out of it what you put into it. Having the satisfaction of leaving a customer with a peace of mind.
Cons
No cons for the company, per se. However, some technicians don’t adhere to the standards at a minimum. This job isn’t for everyone. If you can’t give 100%, then let do something that’s for you.

A great job if you keep your expectations low
9 Oct 2022 - Installation Technician in Raleigh, NCRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
It's a fun and interesting job. I have been here for five years and I genuinely enjoy it here. I can't speak for other areas, but in Raleigh the managers are absolutely phenomenal. I like everyone I work with, both managers and technicians, and I don't think I have ever been able to say that about another job before. Seriously, just the existence of a drama-free environment is a perk all by itself. It certainly helps if you have some background in either security, low voltage, or telecom. But the training program is fairly good and CPI is not adverse to taking chances on good candidates without an optimal background. They are very low-pressure on getting new technicians up to speed and they are happy to work with each person's evolving strengths and weaknesses. Again, this is specific to Raleigh, but scheduling is flexible. Expect to work 40-50 hours a week. Working days off is always a possibility but never a requirement. I have never been given a hard time when I have needed to take a day off. While I'm not really interesting in advancement with the company, but they make nearly all of their promotions internally and they are always looking for those who might be interested in other opportunities.
Cons
The compensation is below average at best. The benefits are worse. Jobs are paid at a piecework rate and that rate has not gone up the entire time I've been here. If there's anything that makes it unlikely that I will be here to see ten years, it's this. Really, what's the point in going above and beyond when I'm compensated at the same level today as I was when I started? The entire pay system inadvertently creates a system that makes teamwork undesirable. I would absolutely love to have the ability to help out my peers, but when we do it is paid at an hourly rate that borders on insulting. It leads to the feeling that when you are on your own in the field you are TOTALLY on your own.
