Pros

Many opportunities to meet all kinds of faculty and staff, develop connections and build friendships. On campus job makes going to work incredibly easy if you are a student. Very flexible in regards to class schedule. Workload is not too heavy, and provided extra opportunity to learn. Was fun to work with professors and students. Most staff and faculty on campus were awesome.

Cons

I worked as a Student Assistant for 2 and a half years while attending the University. Pay: Started at minimum wage. Was promised 50 cent raises based on performance based reviews every 6 months. Was never given a single performance review over the 30 months I was employed there. I brought this up 18 months into my employment and was ignored by management. Constantly told "it will happen soon" My immediate supervisor sympathized but was powerless. When I complained I was told "you should have gotten the initial promise in writing." Asked to take on additional responsibilities in return for higher pay. I was given the responsibilities but no extra pay. Miss classification of employee duties: Was paid as a unskilled Tier 1 employee, but was constantly given work on a tier 2-3 level which required a high technical level of skill. Hired tier 2-3 employee's received significantly higher pay for the exact same work. When these issues were brought up with HR, my manager tried to have me transferred into a different position without my consent or even prior notification. My immediate supervisor refused to do so when I had done nothing wrong and took the heat for defending me. I found out weeks later through a 3rd party what had happened. Was ineligible to file for unemployment due to unemployment code 642 which states "employment does not include services performed in the employ of a College or University if that student is enrolled and regularly attending classes at said University" I was never informed or notified of this prior.

Pros

Fun, flexible scheduling, and cool co-workers.

Cons

None really. Maybe a bad co-worker in the building but that's common.
