Pros

A lovely discount on jewelry that you still won't be able to afford.

Cons

Not a single upper management position is filled by a POC individual. Read that again. Everything about working at Catbird is a facade carefully curated to seem inclusive, positive, and thriving. This could not be further from the reality of working at Catbird. The false sense of community is a complete delusion being projected to Instagram followers and potential new hires. Catbird is by and for wealthy white women. Period. If you do not come from a financially well-off family I truly do not know how you could survive in New York on the salaries offered here. This company exemplifies the absolute worst of the now laughable 'Girlboss' culture. It's a passè and reductive brand identity that feels incredibly outdated and cringe at this point, but no one here has gotten that memo. I honestly don't know if HR and upper management are clueless or simply apathetic. Either way it's shocking and appalling.

Pros

Nice physical studio environment, Decent coworkers, training team very professional and helpful.

Cons

HR does not know how to handle issues professionally. Any complaints about management will pretty much a sure fire way to get you in trouble because there’s a ton of favoritism happening at this company. There’s a very clear divide between the “blue collar” employees and the “white collar” office employees. Almost every jeweler i talk to here feels absolutely miserable about their job but keep up their fake demeanor at work because they watch you closely and not seeming like a happy go lucky little worker will affect your performance review. Opportunity for growth is abysmal. They will not teach you new skills unless you drive yourself crazy working as fast as possible making them an insane profit. Even then, it’s slow and your raises will not reflect your hard work or inflation. They cultivate a toxic competition culture with the jewelers by forcing you to compete speed with every other jeweler in the company, forcing you to have to think about continuing to work faster and faster to beat your coworkers for a positive or even neutral performance review even after you’ve become familiar with the production process. Run for the hills, this was one of the most miserable jobs I’ve ever had and I’ve worked a lot of retail jobs in my past that I would’ve rather been at than this one.

Pros

I had the honor of meeting some of the best, most personable and extremely smart individuals. It was always a comfort coming in knowing how much allegiance there was in believing in ourselves while advocating for each other. Best group of workers I could ask for.

Cons

The decay of upper management is literally a festering rot of dishonesty and zero culpability. You’re at the whims of an area manager who prances from store to store with no regard for immersing herself, checking in or offering any formal guidance. Communication is withheld until the very last minute which creates even more of a buffer to execute the expectations of our jobs. There aren’t any performance reviews to help mitigate areas where we might improve on. Everything is mostly on the fly, and it’s become less and less about ensuring success and more about doubling earnings. With recent expansion, the ethical mandate Catbird likes to promote itself, is rather more likened to a cheapened fast fashion extension of unreliable goods. There is no commission, no overtime pay, and frankly the effects of that has contributed to some of the highest turnover rates. Your complaints will fall on deaf ears, HR especially, your work will likely go unnoticed, your expression and style will suffer at the abundance of overstated policies, all while being told to work with a smile on your face. This is me stating my piece, as a hopeful nudge to not only avoid mine, but also so many others experiences.
