The dynamics of this organization are distorted, to say the least. The lack of transparency and trust is degrading, and the refusal from Senior Management to accept anyone's ideas but their own is frustrating beyond belief. If you are a devout, practicing Catholic, do not work here. Catholic Extension may be raising money for the Catholic Church, but the office culture does not embrace that. It is not designed to. “Catholic Extension is not a Church, so bringing your personal perspective on the Church into the day-to-day activities at Catholic Extension is not appropriate (just like bringing politics into work is not appropriate unless you work in a political office). Teams always work better when personal agendas are left at the door and the only agenda is the team's agenda.” Catholic Extension is nothing more than a business to Senior Management. I am not convinced that the mission of Catholic Extension matters to them, and I cannot understand why or how they justify the long hours that they work. Is it the power? Is it the money? I do not know. But I see no evidence that their hard work is attributed to the mission of Catholic Extension. If it were, they would not act the way that they do. The ‘Team Covenant’ model that they adopted to improve the culture of the office is for show only. Despite promoting Free Expression as a pillar of Team Covenant, I never felt free to express my thoughts or ideas during a meeting that the COO or CMO was in. After both witnessing and experiencing the instant dismissal of ideas by Senior Management, I realized why many people stay quiet and keep their heads down. It’s easier that way. Bottom line: Senior Management dictates what everyone should be doing without any strategy or decision-making process at all. As a result, creativity is stifled and employees begin to care less about the work they are doing because it is not their own. Lastly, the spending habits of Senior Management are very concerning. I don't think donors would feel comfortable knowing that their generosity went to fund the lavish events or fancy over-the-top Team Appreciation Dinners. I understand you have to spend money to make money, but it seems excessive at times. There are definitely ways that they could save the organization some money, but no one other than Senior Management has any say in the budget allocations so this just continues to happen. I am not accusing anyone of mishandling funds, just making an observation as a former employee.
