Pros

I loved that store since I was a kid. I thought it would be a wonderful culture to be a part of.

Cons

Very little positive reinforcement. No one noticed the good work I would do, but would notice anything I did wrong. Supervisors would often be openly lazy. I regularly re-cleaned the bathroom after the other employees who had been assigned to it that day did a poor job. No one took notice of that. When I was working while sick and had finished all the work on the cart, I took the opportunity to sit at the station and was quickly reprimanded by the manager when I had seen many other long time employees do just that ALL OF THE TIME. Management changed at some point in the past decade or so, and the vibe is not as positive as it once was. There was also a very cliquish feel. I was not a "hipster" and never felt liked or accepted by the other employees, even though I worked hard and maintained a positive attitude. There were times when I felt quite shunned.

Doesn't measure up to their reputation

Pros

No uniform, great discount on books, wonderful coworkers, both locations are dog friendly

Cons

Pay is low, management lacks management skills, a lot of passive aggressive emails, no response to direct questions, wifi is atrocious and yet they have you clock in and out with a phone app, no training in the gift department, very few opportunities for career growth
