Pros

Decent PTO. Ability to work from home on occasion. Flexible schedule / can create own schedule to an extent. General mission of the company is wonderful and rewarding.

Cons

You'll feel very overworked for insufficient pay. You're required to use your personal car - expect lots of wear and tear as this is a very travel-heavy position. Takes quite a while to be reimbursed for gas mileage. Your schedule will change on you ALL the time so flexibility with this is a must. You'll be expected to work outside of normal business hours often. (You basically can't have a life outside of work because of these two combined.) You'll feel pulled in multiple directions every day. Must be able to multitask well and work well under stress. Required to give coaching availability outside of Business Development tasks, which can make it hard to get your actual job of developing done. Rules, guidelines and responsibilities get changed frequently without any notification. Be prepared to get in trouble for things you didn't know about. Requires dealing with a lot of rude and unappreciative clients, staff, parents, etc.

Good morning, We are surprised and sorry to see this review, and to hear that you were frustrated with communication from your supervisor. We strive really hard to cultivate and ensure a culture of open communication, employee support, and mutual respect, and never want anyone to feel unheard or unsupported. Our employees are the backbone of the work we do to help people with disabilities gain employment and greater independence, and we'll continue to work to make everyone's daily experience at CIS one of positivity and support. - CIS

Pros

Great mission and many employees are very dedicated In my personal experience had communicative, open, and trusted managers

Cons

-Wasn't paid expense checks for 11 months. This amounted to thousands of dollars. -Was paid direct deposit for a couple months then consistently paid with a paper check because the organization didn't have enough funds to pay everyone. I have worked for non-profits for years- this is not an excuse, non-profits are businesses too who have to pay their employees. I was consistently told that things like this were just part of non-profit life. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The organization would've been able to pay employees properly if they had a development team or any annual fundraisers/ a good relationship with the board, on that note a more connected Board of Directors would have been helpful. -Was constantly expected to drive unreasonable distances that made no sense. Driving an hour for a 1-2 hour shift makes no sense for the employee or the employer. -I can't think of a single director who hasn't been sitting in their position for way too long. Promoting from within is good, but this organization does this TOO much and there is no one with an outsider perspective at the top. Job Coaches and Business Developers are more diverse but their opinions on organizational changes are undervalued.
