Toxic Hustle 'Culture'

Pros

Good company for someone looking for an entry level job who are keen to learn about digital marketing and how not to be a manager.

Cons

This company from the outside looks like a fun place to work but the reality couldn't be further from the truth. This is a mentally draining company who try and squeeze every ounce of life out of their staff encouraging them to work evenings and weekends if neccessary for the company's own gain. Toxic hustle culture is glorified and the burn-out of staff is common. They dress up a chaotic working environment as 'fast paced' so expect to have work dropped on you with tight deadlines on a regular basis. If you are 'lucky' enough to get promoted, expect a lot more responsibility & workload for no pay increase. False promises and being lied to by senior management is the norm here and if you don't like being micro-managed this company isn't for you. Salaries are well below the market average and nothing will get in the way of their "company growth at all costs" mentality. This company is set up for the shareholders to make their millions with no regard for anything else. Don't let them pull the wool over your eyes with a quirky office, prosecco tap and pool table.

Shying away from the obvious disconnect

Pros

There are some incredibly bright individuals who want the best for the agency and make every effort to improve things.

Cons

There is a disconnect between some heads of department and the wider staff as well as a couple of individuals that just made working there incredibly difficult and uncomfortable. The condescending and patronising attitude particularly towards women in the client / project management team caused a lot of stress, upset people and derailed accounts. Despite multiple complaints about this, as well as the lack of actual work and support coming from them due to the exceptionally important ping pong / pool games, this negative attitude is rewarded repeatedly. Some members of the paid team would ignore genuine concerns and messages altogether. Whether this is ego or general rudeness is unclear but this very much came from the top down. The treatment towards individuals with mental health issues from HR was concerning to the point where coming into the office caused anxiety and panic. Some of them spent more time partying and less time supporting.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. Without more information, it is difficult to comment on specific circumstances. Regarding the disconnect between heads of and the wider team, 87.2% said communication from heads of was good to excellent in our last employee survey. There are always things we can do to improve this and one of the things we have implemented is an Operational monthly meeting. The meeting passes more information down from the leadership team to Heads of and senior managers so that in turn they can communicate company-wide information better with their teams. We have also created a ‘love it’ and ‘frustrations’ part of the meeting where heads of bring in feedback from their teams so we can ensure their voices are being heard and any changes that need to be made are actioned. If you have any further ideas or suggestions of how communication can be improved, we encourage you to get in touch with Rachel Perry confidentially. Regarding misogynistic comments, anything of this nature that is raised will always be addressed. We often cannot share the resolution due to respect for everyone’s confidentiality but please rest assured they are actioned and dealt with. We acknowledge that response times on teams and email can be improved across the agency. Many of our team are often out at client meetings, events or new business pitches and replies can take longer but we have reiterated the importance of replying as promptly as possible in our last agency all in. We are concerned to hear that you were unhappy with the mental health support you received from our HR team. We have received positive feedback across the business for the wellbeing support we offer including 97.2% of people saying they feel the company supports their mental health. Without knowing more about your specific situation, it is hard for us to comment further. If there are areas we can improve, it would be really beneficial for us to have a confidential chat. Please reach out to Rachel Perry if you feel comfortable doing so – as with all discussions, your identity will be fully protected.

Pros

They offer some good perks, flexi working and wellness days etc

Cons

A complete lack of organisation. Their lack of communication and cliquey culture makes this an awful environment to work within. Upon handing in my notice, I was pretty much ignored. No exit interview to understand why, no questions asked and a complete disregard for hard work put in. I would definitely not recommend this business. don't be fooled by the pool table and beer pumps.

Hi thanks for your feedback. We reached out to you for further information and clarity and want to thank you for the information you gave us. All your feedback is being looked at internally to understand what happened and where we can improve. Whilst this process is ongoing, there are clear areas where your exit process fell short of what we would usually expect, and we accept responsibility and apologise. Since the start of the year, we have implemented a new exit interview process and unfortunately, we didn’t realise there was a gap in this for when employees are put on gardening leave. We don’t often have employees on gardening leave, however with your role being a sales role this is standard practice. As a result, your exit interview was missed, communication was lacking, and handover processes fell short. We take full responsibility for this and have already implemented a change in this process to ensure this doesn’t happen again. We have sent you a gesture of goodwill as an apology and we are glad to hear you are happy in your new role. If we can be of any further help, please reach out to us.
