Election Judge for Cook County

Pros

There always seems to be a demand for election judges, so it's a nice way for students to earn some tax free cash in a day.

Cons

The day starts extremely early at 5am and although polls close at 7pm, there still may be an hour or two before all the equipment and documents are properly put away. That's a 16 hour day.

Pros

Great benefits. Healthcare, overtime and comp time.

Cons

No career development. No career trajectory. Promotion are very political.

Clerk's Office

Pros

Good work atmosphere. Every day brings a different project or task. The work we do truly helps the community.

Cons

The Clerk sometimes springs things on the team last minute but it isn't a big deal. When you work for an office as multifaceted as this one, you sign up for that on day one. The pay doesn't exactly match with other similar positions
