      Was A Good Experience

      16 Apr 2013 -

      Business Outlook

      Pros

When I was there I really enjoyed the experience of working within my team. The people who I worked with have since left, but at that time that we all worked together it was a very enjoyable experience. We got a lot of great work done and we were all aligned under the same goals. There was a lot of things happening in the space and the company was growing very fast.

      Cons

Teams have become very siloed and there isn't as much collaboration. It's become more of a fiefdom as the company has gotten bigger with top managers fighting to get resources and pass the buck. Too many people being hired to do very niche jobs rather than the wear-many-hats approach that allowed early employees to grow and explore and develop different skillsets. There's not a strong company culture. Steven is not exactly the most charismatic company leader and hasn't really stepped up to create any sort of strongly identifiable sense of culture and camaraderie.

Exciting place to work and develop your career!

      28 Oct 2012 -

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - People work hard, but schedules are flexible (e.g. unlimited sick days - because who wants germ infested people in the office?!) - Great managers who care about developing their people (I've witnessed this in multiple groups, not just my own) - Start-up environment where ideas & execution are appreciated - Diverse product offerings so you can be exposed to many different types of businesses (e.g. mobile, grocery, e-commerce) - Commitment to being a green company - Free food including food trucks (and ice cream) - To combat the free food, there's also free exercise classes (that will kick your butt)

      Cons

      - Some upper management may come off as distant or intimidating. Even though this isn't true, this is still a perception that should be corrected.

      Big Disappointment

3 Jun 2013 -  in Mountain View, CA

      Pros

Company has a good product, and is well positioned for growth where there is potential. Location is good, if you live on the peninsula. Free lunch and food every day is a nice perk. Benefits are good. Depending on the position and department you work it can be positive environment.

      Cons

Rapid growth in it's first 2-3 years created arrogance in management, and the belief that the growth potential was a slam dunk. Coupons Inc is the market leader in the online printable coupon space, reach is broad, and thousands of sites have their white-label content. However, the company is still struggling with positioning and how to move to the next level. Their revenue is only sufficient to sustain a company of about 50 people. Big problems are on the horizon, therefore it's not a stable place of employment any longer. Nor, is it a place to learn or grow. Management seems lost regarding what the next steps should be. There is no clear vision relayed to the employees. And, several layoffs were the result.

      Great environment

17 Sep 2011 - Client Services in Mountain View, CA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great people: most employees are easy to approach and get along with. Fast-paced environment. Free food, beverages, and snacks. Good health benefits. The company is doing a lot to improve the culture, they just started offering fitness classes.

      Cons

The work hours can be very long, some of the employees in upper management seem harder to approach and relate to. The CEO is barely visible, which is odd for such a small company. Unless you are in upper-management, most employees only know him via e-mails and company-wide meetings.

Not a good match for Silicon Valley - Avoid this place

9 Oct 2012 - Anonymous Employee in Mountain View, CA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Compensation & benefits are on par with other local tech companies - Free catered lunch every day

      Cons

      - Extremely low quality of employees - few have any prior experience in the Valley culture - the rare talented ones who accidentally ended up here have either left quickly or are actively looking to leave as the economy improves - Incompetent management - virtually none have tech experience or have ever worked outside the old-fashioned CPG industry - literally no clue how to run an innovative high-tech company - most never leave their offices - No innovation - company is just a rehash of an offline idea (newspaper coupons) with no re-imagining of how to transform CPG promotions for a digital world - this is where your career will come to die - Silo organization & no collaboration - you have never worked for a company (esp. in the Valley) with a more hierarchical structure or less cross-dept. collaboration Clueless founders - they had an idea for starting the company 13 years ago and nothing has changed since then - they refuse to leave & won't go public because they fear losing control

Business Development & Partnership Aquistion Director

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Start up, interesting ability to build a new digital business. Pay was ok, work life balance was good. Tight with $$ for conferences that could have been a great networking and sales opportunity.

      Cons

Upper management was really out of touch with frontline employees. Focused on growing just those big clients and not expanding into the mid to lower tier where there were less resistance and more partnership opportunities. The partnership model went to a self serve model and i think they lost a lot of opportunities to grow thier publishers network and create more win-win revenue opportunities.

      Employee Loyalty is Not Valued

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Friendly people in the workforce. Some very smart individuals who are great to have on your team. You can get a lot accomplished if you're in the right team. Innovation is encouraged through hackdays and online suggestion board. They know their business - digital coupons.

      Cons

There is so much negativity in some groups that it's hard to feel motivated about your work. Executives pay very little attention to the people who are working to support them. Layoffs/Firings occur regularly - there have been 6 in less than 3 years. No explanation or morale booster for the folks left to pick up without them. Feels like any day could be your last. There is no clear career path, job requirements. Advancements are purely subjective and arbitrary.

      Decent but flawed

      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Even after 14 years of being in business, it's still has some start-up qualities - Casual dress - Plenty of free food that's pretty good - People are reasonably smart and friendly - Some latitude to be innovative

      Cons

      - Unnecessarily political atmosphere with lots of turf wars and siloed teams - Management often seems more focused on short-term targets than long-term strategy - High attrition in some areas - Lots of old-school systems and processes needing modernization, although they're working hard to update things
