Great vision, poor execution

Pros

The vision is something I can really get behind. The staff are very passionate and really care for the clients and are committed to the mission. The clients themselves are some of the most inspiring people you will ever meet. Despite really tough working conditions (long hours, limited resources, gaslighting) they have a good PTO policy (2 weeks off + week of Christmas + personal & sick days) and comp time for late hours.

Cons

The tough working conditions make this place a very difficult organization to work for long term. There is frequent staff turnover and employees who leave are painted as if they simply weren't committed enough. Leadership struggles to listen to staff and accept accountability. Like other reviews have mentioned, this is not a great place to work if you are a woman or a PoC - unless you are one of the tokens.

Great cause, limited leadership

Pros

The organization is mission-driven and the clients served are some of the most inspirational and wonderful people I've ever met. Because it has a "start-up" feel, there is a fair amount of autonomy. There are some exceptional people on staff to work alongside of.

Cons

There is a lack of trust between leadership and staff. Even if you are the most qualified person in the room to solve a particular problem, your solution will be pushed back against (particularly if you are a woman or a POC). The leadership makes lofty promises in terms of salary and benefits that go unfulfilled. The "family" dynamic of the workplace is exploited to overwork employees and then gaslight them when they ask for respect, let alone fair compensation.

So so

Pros

They are very mission driven and very motivated to help neighbors develop their careers. Compensation was fair and PTO was awesome!

Cons

This is not a great place to work if you are a woman or a person of color. They have a reputation of over promising and under delivering. Employee retention is a little lower than Non Profit norms due to their inability to listen to valuable feedback from staff and clients. Their employee retention of minorities is extremely poor.
