Pros

They hire pretty much anyone

Cons

No communication from the store management! Their biometric system is constantly broken and nobody is fixing anything. The manager just says "No worries, we'll clock you in/out" and you're just supposed to take her word for it. Too many managers who don't communicate between themselves and give the staff contradictory commands. NO APPRECIATION for your hard work!!! Only criticism for what you haven't done, and you're expected to do a thousand things at once, often in different locations around the store, which is sometimes physically impossible. Managers making cashier staff sell food expiring on the day (is that even legal??) At times they expect you to read their mind about some tasks in store and then get angry at you because you didn't do what they didn't even say! Roster changes every day, one employee got a shift change for the next day without any notice from anyone! Another employee had a nervous breakdown from all the demands and criticism and broke into tears, she quit the next day and was just brushed off as "incompetent". Yet another employee, an excellent seller who made budget on featured products, was still criticised for not being as fast with stock... for crying out loud, why not just put her on the registers??? One more employee stayed behind to sort some store issues and wasn't paid for extra time until she threatened to contact Fair Work. For myself, I never got any proper training, just an email with one 45 page document as "manual" and the other, 99 pages long, for company policies and procedures. I was supposed to educate myself on my own, in my free time. Same applied to the store - nobody showed me around until day 3 (they just pointed around the store and encouraged me to just read the signs). The induction handbook was given out and I got a very brief description on some items; as for others, "we'll tell you later". Store employees were not able to answer some questions about the employee handbook (which they signed at some point themselves and are supposed to know???) A common answer was "just call the manager" or "I don't know, just sign here". And the cherry on the cake! During the job interview, I was promised a "casual job but with full-time hours". Week 2 and I suddenly get my hours cut by two thirds. Their reply? "Well, it's a casual position, so you can get between 0 and 38 hours without any promises". Seriously? One of the girls broke down in tears when she got 12 hours the next week - and she's a good seller, and a loyal staff member who's been with Daiso for 5 years. Hands down, WORST place I've ever worked at!

Pros

Friendly colleagues. That is all.

Cons

Every single day when you go to work, be prepared to face the higher up's demeaning, insulting words, mindgames and brings you down. Never ask him, he will scold you say "Why dont know but never ask?". Ask him, he will scold you say "Why ask me? Go figure it out yourself.". Got anger management issues - bang table. Quarelled with him over whatsapp - He ask a colleague (note: the colleague no longer works there at this time of writing) to come and take a look at our conversation. Then when the higher up ask me come to his desk, I got fed up and said I know you ask the colleague to come see our conver. Then he denied of such thing and said he was merely talking to him about smth else. When I asked the colleague, he admitted that indeed the higher up told him to come see our conver. What an immature action coming from an old man. Management knows about his poor behaviour, quick temperament and insulting words, saying we stupid. But all they tells us is basically to suck it up but they put in a sugarcoat way. (: "Please bear it with him. After all he is your higher up and he has the experience.". Having over 30 yrs or 40 yrs or 50 yrs of experience doesn't mean you can say ppl no common sense, say ppl stupid. Anyway, he says that to everyone not just me.
